Going along with sufficiency we need to see too that some New Testament lists are not meant to be exhaustive, and they carry within them the principle that there may be other good or bad things than the authors considered, or mentioned. This is important if we are to address the issue of dilemmas or behaviours that the biblical writers could not have conceived. Rather than say that the Bible has fallen short in some way, or engaging in implausible exegesis to prove our point, we might do better to admit that there will be judgment calls we have to make for which the Bible gives the raw material, but we have to work an answer out.

Notice how Paul does this in Galatians:

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:19–23)
